(To Be) Fathers - Increased Stress on You May Cause Impaired Brain Development in Your Child

Research, led by neuroscientists at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, reveals that a father's stress affects the brain development of his offspring. Stress can alter the important aspects of father's sperm which can then alter the brain development of the child. The experiment was conducted in a mice to examine how a father's lifestyle impacts his children. In the study, lead Researcher Tracy Bale and her colleagues found that the father's sperm showed changes in genetic material known as microRNA. MicroRNA are important because they play a key role in which genes become functional proteins.
