Smelling Your Partner's Scent May Trigger Emotions And Help Reduce Your Anxiety

Humans are known to have unique and genetically determined natural body scents. A study published in the American Psychological Association's Journal of Personality and Social Psychology reveals that the scent of your lover can activate memories, trigger emotions, and also influence responses to stress. In that study, 96 women were exposed to an acute stress test and were randomly assigned to smell one of three scents (their partner’s, a stranger’s, or a neutral scent). Their stress and cortisol (a hormone that causes stress) level were measured continuously throughout the study. Researchers have found that the cortisol levels were high in women who were exposed to a stranger’s scent and the perceived stress was reduced in women who were exposed to their partner’s scent.
